How BeneathFur Works: Dog & Cat Skin Inspection in 60 Seconds
A guided 60-second scan that helps you check the spots ticks and fleas hide most, without leaving the couch.
1. Open the camera
Tap "Start scan" on the homepage. BeneathFur opens your phone camera with our SPECTRA contrast filter, which makes dark parasites pop against fur.
2. Follow the guided body map
We walk you around 6 key zones of your dog or cat, ears, head, back, belly, legs and tail, with short prompts at each step.
3. Spot ticks more easily with the SPECTRA filter
The contrast filter is what does the heavy lifting during the guided scan: it darkens fur and makes ticks, flea dirt and scabs visually pop, so your own eyes catch things you'd otherwise miss. It's not an automatic diagnosis, it's a better pair of glasses.
4. SPECTRA and LUMA imaging modes
SPECTRA and LUMA use BeneathFur's AI-enhanced imaging system to reveal what's normally hidden beneath dense fur. The modes intelligently amplify subtle visual differences in texture, depth, and surface detail, helping tiny ticks, fleas, dark spots, and skin irregularities become far easier to notice with the naked eye.
5. Run a full AI body scan (Pro)
Pro users get an extra "AI scan" button that analyzes the full set of photos from your guided walk-around and flags anything suspicious, ticks, lumps, hot spots, irritation, with a short note on what to do next: keep watching, remove safely, or see a vet.
6. Save to your pet's history
Every scan is saved in your history so you can track healing, share with your vet, and spot recurring patterns.
